1/27/2024 0 Comments Free Soul Cliff![]() ![]() There is no two-way traffic on this trail. The Mürren via ferrata is a one-way route: Mürren to Gimmelwald. Since it is an overall descent from Mürren to Gimmelwald, you will be climbing down these ladders and rungs, rather than climbing up. The Mürren via ferrata is slightly different. For the easier via ferratas, you are essentially climbing a ladder attached to the cliff. To stay safe, you attach yourself to the cable that runs along these rungs, using the carabiners on your harness. You ascend a series of metal rungs that are bolted into the rock face. Usually, a via ferrata is used to climb up a cliff or a mountain. More recently, via ferrata routes have been created around the world for recreational purposes. Many of these routes were created to help move Italian troops and their weapons through the higher elevations of the Italian Dolomites. ![]() In Italian, via ferrata means “iron way.” These iron paths date back to the 19th century but they became more widely used during World War I. ![]()
